Bridget's background

Bridget and team mates after 2nd place GP Lyon Montplaisir 2009.

Bridget’s enjoyment of cycling started at an early age, as an 8 year old with the local kids of the area where BMX riding and race days were fun, even with future sprint king Robbie McEwan part of the action!

This love of sport may also be in the genes with Bridget’s mother being a successful national 400m hurdler.

Bridget enjoying a surprising 3rd place at Grand Bornard, France.

The early adventures of cycling and travel took Bridget to the BMX World Championships in 1985 to Whistler, Canada. Little did she know that this early exposure to sport and travel would be a major factor 20 years later in the formation of practicebicycle.com!

Bridget’s school years followed the traditional sports of athletics and swimming, before running injuries steered her back to her first love, the bicycle.

Working at a sports centre gave her the flexibilty to pursue her cycling as a career, and so began the 5 year apprenticeship to become a "racing cyclist".  The stories and tribulations of this pursuit would fill a book and make very interesting reading, many friends and colleagues over the years have asked her why she does not write this story.  Bridget's answer "nobody would buy the book, because nobody would believe it!"

The following 10+ years of competition took Bridget to many countries and great events, including the women's edition's of the Tour de France, Giro d'Italia, Tour de Suisse, Tour of Gila, Primavera Rosa and many other great events, where she met many wonderful people who are still good friends today. If you ask Bridget about these years occasionally the memories will be of a good performance or result, but more than likely she will tell you about the enjoyment of meeting and riding with these people.

Bridget's first "cycling in the french alps" experience came in 1998, with a 6 week training/racing trip, unfortunately sleeping at altitude on the top of the Col de Croix Fry at 1467m was a shock to her system! Especially when this required a 20km descent each day riding down into Annecy and a 20km climb back up at the end of every ride!

Dauphine Libere Cyclo-Sportive, France 2007, riding through torrential rain, but still smiling!!

400m track was the chosen sport at High School

I'm sure you can understand how she quickly developed a fondness for Annecy as her european cycling base and it wasn't long before she discovered how idyllic the surrounding roads were for various types of cycling. Over the following years riding on these superb roads heightened the desire to share this with other like minded cyclists and so practicebicycle.com was formed!
